How do I enable ORiNOCO Gold card with WEP?
Just got one, and the manual doesn't mention anything. Looks just like the Compaq WL110 card I had before which has the same problems...
I know where to set the WEP, but it take a key, and only had options for using Key-1 through Key-4. Most sets lists WEP in terms of 64 or 128bit. Since my hubs (Compaq and Linksys) all have 64/128bit settings, what do I set these cards to? Do I use the same passphrase on both (this would be logical), but what is my "Key1..2..3..4" setting? TIA, - Dave |

the encryption level is set by the key length. use 5 ascii chars for 64bit and 13 for 128bit. or if u use hex, it's 10 for 64bit and 26 for 128bit.
the key1-4 is just for if u want to rotate different keys. just fill in key 1 and then select it as active.

Have you been able to establish a link with WEP?

My link works great w/o envryption, and I've been running that way for {gulp} - lets just say "a while".
When I try and turn on the encryption on my Compaq WL110 or Orinoco card, I can't get a link - it doesn't connect to the hub. I can still see the hub w/ NetStumbler... With my older cards (Compaq WL100), I can use encryption just fine, although they have s/w that says "64/128 bit". Its just with these new cards (and new s/w that comes with them) that it doesn't work. Also, I have tried (on the Compaq WL110 only) HEX encryption, and it doesn't work either. Does that turn up any clues for you? |

More info. Connection to the hub has been established, and I can DHCP to the hub, but if I turn off DHCP on the hub, it never picks up my "regular" DHCP server on the network, and thus I can't connect.
Without the encryption turned on, I can see the regular DHCP server just fine. What's with that? ![]() |
