Tiger Silver or Gold?

The IBM is probably a silver card. They misrepresented the same thing on the Silver cards they had the first of the month. I bought two of them and they were definately silver despite the ad.

Exclamation the photo of the lucent card says silver

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?sku=L78-1000

if you "click to enlarge" you can see that the photo says "Silver" on the bottom edge in big letters...
now the question is which is right, the photo or the description?

has anyone bought one of these yet?

interesting...

just did a google search on the part number: WRFPC24E-H-FC
and some other places such as vendorbasedirect are selling them.
description there says 104 bit RC4 also. but the photo is of
a silver card again.

i have both silver and gold orinoco cards (not wavelan labeled)...
and both of them have PC24E-H-FC on the back at the top. but the P/N is different...014916/D on gold and 012939/B on silver.

lucent drivers support ibm

for those of you having problems w/ ibm cards...
i just looked into my orinoco driver INF and it shows the following IBM cards:

%wlibm48_LT1.DeviceDesc% = wlluc48.Install, PCMCIA\IBM_CORPORATION-IBM_HIGH_RATE_WIRELESS_LAN_PC_CARD-22CA
%wlibm48_LT2.DeviceDesc% = wlluc481.Install, PCMCIA\IBM_CORPORATION-IBM_HIGH_RATE_WIRELESS_LAN_PC_CARD-12D4
%wlibm48_LT3.DeviceDesc% = wlluc48.Install, PCMCIA\IBM_CORPORATION-IBM_HIGH_RATE_WIRELESS_LAN_PC_CARD-28A3

check your registry or device manager. is your card one of these? if so the orinoco stuff should work..just get rid of the ibm stuff first.

Success on IBM Silver card firmware!

I have an IBM/Agere-Silver card. After much trail an error, with Lucent and Orinonco software I have successfully updated the firmware to version 8.10. I did it by first updating the Client software , diriver and firmware from IBM's site found at this link. http://www-1.ibm.com/support/manager...oc=MIGR-4TGSC9 . That brought me up to IBM Client 2.0 (from 1.1), and Version: 6.4xx firmware. I then went to the MS Windows Update page. It offered an update for my Agere driver. I t said something about Miniport 7.42, but when It finsihed, I my firmware was at 8.10.

Now I just need to upgrade the WEP from 64 to 128. Any ideas on that?

two questions

1) i downloaded the Win2k drivers for IBM but i don't see the firmwarre upgrade utility anywhere. According to the readme file for the drivers it should be in the c:\wlan folder however such folder was not created during installation

2) can you possibly post the file that windows update site sent you? Unfortunately since i can only have one adapter in the laptop at one time i can't surf the net and update the card sw....not until i get a wireless adapater for my desktop

thanx

Yes I will post the files later on today. You're right, it does not SAY its going to update the firmware, but it does. It looks like its just going to do the drivers and Client manager.

upgrading to 128bit

fozzy_wozzy_woo has had luck upgrading silver cards by inserting them into an intermec AP.

this other guy on the nycwireless board claims that inserting them into a an apple macintosh w/ airport software 2.0 can do it too. does anyone w/ an apple computer care to try?

so I bought a Linksys USB adapter...and no luck

Laptop: Win2000, the IBM Client Manager seems to detect the ad-hoc network

Desktop: WinXP, i enter the same in for the adhoc network and connection does not come up

The files are posted here: ftp://68.64.24.43 Read the attached Word doc. Funny thing, XP sees my card as firmware 8.10, the same card on Win2000 sees it as 6.xx. One thing you can do is use the newer XP IBM client software version 2.32 on Win2k.

Serves me right for having a personal ftp server that was not properly patched and hardened. I was clean before I turned on the server. I guess nimda found me and infected me. I will not put my ftp server on the net any more. I'll use Xdrive or something. Any luck with Win2k and your Silver card? Mine is working great with XP Pro.
