Illegal DB limit with antenna?

If one was to go over the legal db limit with their antenna..like 80-100dbi or something, how exactly would you be caught? just a curiousity of mine

asshole s like me call the fcc on your ass.

(i have two kills so far)

itching for a third.

(people shouldnt think they can get away with blasting the ether with 4 watt millitary amps.. and military grade ant's)

i do recon and even talk to these people and make sure they are grossly neglegent before i call the fcc.

if they are cool and dont know the difference then i correct them.

many cities have regional fcc locations which will look into complaints of disruptive communications - if many devices in your area operating in a frequency band begin working sketchily, all one would need is a directional antenna to track you down - clearly blatent violations from a fixed location could be discovered in a short time, but i'd expect that less frequent wardrives might go unresolved if done in an inconspicuous manor

also, i believe that you can have an amp with a very high gain for the use of recieving (obvious noise factors - continuing with conjecture) assuming you don't transmit with it - thus your dbi could be higher than fcc transmitting regualations, but whose to know if all you're doing is recieving

[disclaimer: the above opinion is for entertainment purposes only; consult the fcc before operating any device which may cause harmful interferance]

GO Dr3D1zzl3! GOOD FOR YOU!!!

We should come up with a decal for each kill, like fighter pilots have. You could put 'em on your fender...

Has the FCC told you of results? Whether or not those two people complied upon the notification or did the FCC have to confiscate the equipement and fine them?
------------------------------

TheSovereign, dB of the system is additive. For example: 15bB transmitter + 8dB antenna = 23dB effective radiated power. (Not counting line loss, etc.) So you can get more out that you put in to it. - Sort of

The word to remember is "effective." Think of the antenna as a lens. The antenna focuses the energy from the transmitter. You can't get anymore sunlight out of a magnifying glass than went into it, but the focus sunlight can be a lot hotter in a smaller area.
------------------------------

cdaybox,
It isn't hard.
Step 1: Just look for the setup who has all the distortion around it.
Step 2. Confirm using RF tools.
Step 3. Call FCC.

On a similar note, I can tell every 18-wheeler that passes my house running a illegal "boot" (CB RF amplifier.) They overload my TV set, and you can hear portions of conversation for a second.

For God's sake point that someplace else . . .

Remeber boys and girls, 2.4 Ghz is not the safest wavelength to play with high-gain antennas.

This frequency can cause cellular damge at very high intensity levels.

Don't ever look down your pringle's can yagi when its plugged in, and preferably keep it above other's eye level . . . .

To those wondering if you can boost the signal level, the answer is most definetly YES, even without an amplifier. Directional antennas will increase signal strength (dB) by basically focusing the energy.

Easy!

You will be easy to spot, if you have a 10' dish mounted on your chimney!

I am not an antenna guru, never have been. What will happen? Not that "I" would aim this at anyone who is driving on the expressway doing 35 in a 65 because they are on their damn cell phone...

The eyeballs are the most sensitive body part to RF radiation. Specifically the corneas (if I remember my lessons correctly.) You can literally cook them.

Probably unlikely with the power levels on most cards. But why chance it?

Oh but if only...

If only I could disconnect their cell connection, it would be a beautiful thing.

a satellite dish with a 100W amp on a sweeping pulse would be nice

We're talking cellular as in what the human body is made up of - not cellular communication.

The human body is largely composed of water - which just happens to resonate at 2.4GHz - with possible damage to all living things, not just humans

The FCC in my area actually have a white van, kind of similar to telco vans, with three "team members" inside and the driver. The outside of the van has 3 antenna's, and what looks to be a GPS antenna on top as well. They do regular scans of the area, although I've only seen the van once.
