increase power output on prism2

hi i recall reading about how you could increase the power output on the prism cards by some type of flashing? however my searches only turn up doing this for the wap11 ap.

how would i go about increasing power xmit on my prism2 pccard? its only 10mw right now which is pretty useless

thanks!

You want the WLAN Expert program. STW for "wlanexpert.zip" or "PrismII-wlanexpert.zip"

I've only used it with a Linksys WPC11 (v1 and v3), using the Linksys driver. In every case it worked fine. The only times I've seen the "Can not find the PC card WLAN" message, was when I had the an ORiNOCO card in the laptop.

Did you install the Pcandis3.vdx and W32N50.dll in the correct directories and reboot? They're included with the application for a reason.

ah i thought that it could work from the working directory (from experience dlls usualyl can do that)

checking my system32 i see that i already have those files (albeit different versions) i put the ones included in the system32 and rebooted. going to test now.

red inalambrica drivers probably wont work with it but im betting that linksys drivrs will fix

would the version3 work for a 2 card? afaik 3 is only backwards compatible with 2.5
it would be nice bc the 3version has wpa

edit: didnt help to put them in system32

Yes. You may want to search the BAWUG archives for a message from Ivan Korshun. He is the author of WLAN Expert, and had some information about drivers. There is also information about general use of the program.

ahh ive tried a batch of drivers ranging from the red inalambrica that winxp will get from winupdate to the wap drivers that are available thru the linksys wpc11version3 to the old wpc11version1 xp driver

plus, i have the vcd and dll that coem with wlanexpert in the system32 directory replacing the other ones (backups made)

it just keeps saying "Can not find the PC card WLAN"

ive rebooted numerous times too

hmm... going to give wpc11 nonxp a try. it seems that i keep stepping back in drivers. could it be the firmware? im running 1.7.1 right now. maybe i should flash back to an old one?

could you provide any details as to which firmware/drivers you used? the intersil prism test utility works fine as does winupdate

thanks

You just reminded me of something. I did not realize you were running XP. WLAN Expert only runs under Win9x. You MUST run Win9x to this to work. Not W2k, not XP, and no emulation mode. Genuine W9x only.

aghhh bloody

but if i make the change will it be permanent? because if it is i wouldnt mind formatting

edit: doing a little checking shows that wlanexpert probably only does something with the driver eh

so it wont be permanent

in that event, is there a way to chagne it thru the drivers in xp? maybe some type of string to put in the inf before isntallign it?
