lanready wireless cards, comments
hi all , new to these forums. havent seen a thing posted in regards to comments about the Lanready line of wireless products? they have a nice looking pci card that comes with an external 6db antenna( may gain some range by positioning it,in a diff location ,in relation to AP) for a cheap price. these have the Amdek chipset. i am just now getting into the 802.11b world and am wondering if these are worth a shot? plus lanready makes an ap/router as well. any comments appreciated.. thanks.

I have used two of the Lanready WAP/Routers for customers. Setup is simple, range is decent. They only support 11Mbs., but that's more than enough for home use. The interface is simple, not as many features as the d-link WAPs.
The price is very low, I buy from comready.com. I also use the Lanready USB wireless adapters ... I'm using one to type this. They support 128bit encryption and they have a moveable antenna, attached. The range is MUCH better than the d-link PC card I used to use in this laptop. The security startup on the USB adapter is a bit spotty. You create a profile with security information which is supposed to be used when the card starts, it doesn't always work. When I start up this laptop I have to select the profile before I can use wireless. No biggie, just a minor pain. I use the same adapter on a converted Virgin Webplayer and it starts with my saved security settings. Both systems are running win98 with almost identical software ... go figure. Conclusion: decent products, real cheap. |
