Laptop recomendations?

Hi,

I planning to buy a laptop this week for use with NetStumbler and Kismet. Never having really used either program before I was wondering whether there are any laptops to avoid.

Also whether there are certain features I should be looking to get.

I plan us use a Classic Gold pcmcia card, but apart from this am open to all suggestions. Budget is around $400 USD, maybe slightly more.

Thanks for any advice or recommendations!

Almost any laptop will do. 500MHz, 10GB hard drive and 256MB RAM is more that sufficient if that's all you really want to do. You could probably find one for less than $200 USD.

You do realize that NetStumbler is a Windows program and that Kismet is a Linux program, right? You'll need to set up the laptop to dual boot, or at least boot Windows from the HD and Linux Live-CD.

I used a 266 mhz with 128 meg ram and 8 gig hd under Ubuntu linux and Kismet. Had plenty of power and no issues.

Ahh, that's nothing, try 400mhz xscale with 60Mb of ram, and 128Mb of flash, runs kismet quite well.

Thanks for the advice everyone, appreciated.

Glad to see it doesn't need much power and, yep, aware Kismet is Unix based.

Nottingham myself, hai!
