Arrow Laptops Best Suited?

Hello

I'm saving up for a laptop over the summer and putting all that money into wardriving.

I'm a long time PC user [Windows], but I know nothing about laptops or any of the sort :\. Are there any suggestions on what to get? I need some speed preferbly above 2.0ghz a decent amt. of memory [at least 512mb] and a decent graphics card [above 128mb].

I think it might be too pricey :\

Any suggestions of any brand I don't care. As long as I can play CS and DAoC and wardrive with it

I might be asking in the wrong place but I'm tired of lurking

Try the "hardware" department . . . and now you know, laptops are considered hardware, now you can't say you "know nothing about laptops" . . .

I suggest using that money to go on holiday.

Put aside a couple of hundred dollars to buy a piece o' crap laptop that just about runs windows; it will run Netstumbler perfectly. Kismet too, if you so desire to go down that route.

Big, flashy laptops are for people with too much money. You should take the figure you first proposed for your video cards memory, devide it by some number, and use that figure as your system ram. If you want a poncy laptop, buy a Mac, they're much better than an expensive wintel job.

My IBM T41p was rather expensive, but by no means is it "flashy"

Gets the job done quickly and quietly. Then again, it isn't exactly wintel either.

Heck, no need for all that speed...

I do my stumbling with an old Dell Latitude CP laptop, 233 Mhz Pentium MMX processor, 96 Mb Ram, Windows XP, and it works just fine.

Instead of having the CD-rom drive in the second bay, I have an extra battery slotted in, and while wardriving, the lid is down, so no power is drained by the screen. Gives me about 4,5 hours of stumbling time.

No need to go out and buy the latest, greatest, most flashy laptop on the block..

Just my 0.02€'s worth

as long as it has either a mini-pci slot or a pmcia slot you'll be allright. It would be alot better if it supported Linux - then you could run various other wifi related programs on it as well. Good luck!
