While searching for some information about a linksys USB adapter card I just bought, I stumbled accross this website. (No pun intended!) So I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. heh
For thoes of you who would like to use a cheaper card for stumbling, I recommend the linksys USB adapter...and yes I am aware it is not compatible with the current version on NS, but it has it's own stumbler built in...kinda. The software linksys provides will autosearch for APs, but it's kinda slow. So, I decided to take a peek into the app using either ResHacker or Exescope. To my suprise there is actually a place to change the Interval for the timer in linksys's software. (Not to mention you can get creative and design your own backgrounds and buttons!) So, I'm working on a little program that will automatically record all the same info NS does right from the linksys app window. (A little WinApi is good every now and then) I'll post the program and source when I complete it. It's going to be no NetStumbler, but hey, it'll get the job done! BTW...anyone know if/when a version of NS will be released to support orther chipsets and such. I'd still like to play with it one of these days! w00t |

Problem is that the LinkSys card has the worst range and S/N filtering of all the cards I've tested. I get "average" signal on a Lucent Orinoco Gold when the LinkSys is completely dead.
I use the LinkSys card to test "WCS" (Worst Case Scenarios) for clients. I tell them that if the LinkSys card works, than so will sticking a coat hanger into your USB Port. ![]() Harry Otto, MCSE |

yes, but what kind of loss do you experience across a coat hangar, and what kind of signal to noise ratio do you get? LOL.
