Linksys WAP11 RF Output Power

I have heard that it is possible to boost the output power of a Linksys WAP11 by using some software or somthing. Anyone know how to do this?

I have done this upgrade and it worked perfectly...what you'll need is a program from Amtel called ap configurator...it can be found here:

http://www.wi2600.org/mediawhore/nf0/wireless/utils/

You'll have to edit the program just a bit to get to the functions you need...you'll have to edit the snmpmanager.ini...so that the values that equal 0 will equal 2...then start the program...then there will be a radio section...go to that and set all the hex valuse to 80...upload new data, and whaalaa...100mW AP....for a good right up go here:

Great, thanks.

Thanks for the info. How much better is the reception?

Be careful. Reportedly this chews up most of the US band with side channel noise. In fact one report I read had photos of a spectrum analyser screen showing the entire band wiped out due to a WAP11 bumped up to 100mW on CH6.

Of course, your mileage may vary. But if the neighbors start complaining about their AP suddenly not working, you'll know why.

Cheers,
Thorn

I have seen this too.

The side lobes of the WAP11 are across the entire 2.4 range. Nothing but problems.

Here's the link about it....

...so you can see for yourself..

What a mess. Think I would rather do an antenna upgrade instead.

heres a fun experiment, since my RF test equipment only goes up to 1.2GHz I can't do this experiment but if some could take there wap11 and play with the power setting and see what the optimum power out put would be that would be very kewl and then post there findings...
