I am trying to use Linksys WET11's as part of a new wireless ISP for the CPE. I am finding that the WET11 will stop responding and/or no longer pass traffic. Once I reset the box it will work for no more than a minute before locking up again.
Has anyone run into this issue and is their a resoultion? I am running the firmware 1.5.4 with WEP |

WEP
Turn off the WEP, and secure your connection another way... i.e. Mac Address Filtering, Static IP's... or... buy another device from the same manufacturer as your wireless cards, router or AP.

It should work out fine. I know of two ISP's that are using them with really no issue. Ocassional reboot, but thats Linksys.
I would suggest mac filtering and no DHCP. Also, stop broadcasting your SSID. What Access point are you using?

Cisco 350
The bridges all have static address's, I use WEP and MAC filtering and they all connect to a Cisco 350 access point with no SSID broadcast.
I eventually replaced the bridge that was causing me problems and havn't heard of any issues since. However, I now have another customer complaining that he must reboot his linksys too often. I'd like to resolve the issue before selling the service is mass. |

If you are looking for a good ethernet bridge, I would reccomend a SmartBridge indoor AirBridge. They run about 50 dollars more than Linksys WET11s but they are profesional grade. You can remotely configure them and they are rock solid. All POE and they even have a cool outdoor version that is amazing. They cost a little more that linksys or Dlink but they are still way cheaper than Orinoco's ethernet converter.
ATW and Electro-comm sell them. Try one out.

No.
http://www.smartbridges.com/new/products/index.php http://www.atwwireless.com/sbridge.htm http://www.ecommwireless.com/smartbridges.html AirBridges are an excellent balance of price and dependability. Linksys and Dlink bridges are cheap but in the long run, you waste a lot of time and money driving out to troubleshooting them and keeping the customer happy. No remote configuration abilities means you are going to be making a lot of trips. They just aren't comercial grade. Orinoco and Avaya ECs are rock fuckin solid but they are expensive and the price does not include a card. 250 for the EC and another 65 for the client card, and you've already spent enough for 2 airbridges. I know I'm sounding like a salesman but this stuf works great. If you are operating a WISP and using Linksys or Dlink hardware, you are just going to make yourself and your customers miserable. Shell out the extra 50 jimjams for smartbridge equipment.
