Linux Setup
Until now I've been happily stumbling along using my old laptop, Win98 and netstumbler, but I was thinking of changing over to linux, to improve my skills with the OS and give me a little project to work on. I am not completely new to Linux, but I obviously want to be able to get back up and stumbling fairly quickly, so my question is this:
Bearing in mind my laptop is a measly P166MMX with 40MB of ram, whats the best Distro to use, and exactly what software will I need to get going again? I have a Melco Buffalo PCM-L11 Card, with which I have been using Orinoco drivers on the windows setup. Any success stories with similar builds out there? Is it even worth the hassle? Cheers rt |

Personally i've been using both windows and linux, set them up as a dual boot and things work pretty good. Keep in mind however that some of the current tools don't support hermes chips. I use slackware myself, works good and is quite configurable. As for software check out the howto here http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/ that'll get you up and running. I find it's a little easier to find wlans using netstumbler, then use linux to probe it harder then you can with windows. Works good if you happen to find any wep enabled ones.
