Question listening to 2.4ghz (literally)

I know this is a little bit out there, but has anybody used a radio scanner to literally listen to the 2.4ghz range that 802.11b/g employ? I'm wondering what kind of equipment would be necessary (preferably some sort of standalone radio scanner).

I'm doing an art project involving wireless networking, and for the audio component I'd like to play the incoherent static/noise that occupies the frequency.

Sorry if this is in the wrong category!

Well, your best bet, would be to research to see if there is any scanner out there that can pick up 2.4ghz. If there is one, I doubt you're going to be willing to spend the cash to buy it, since it's going to be really expensive.

I'd try Google for "audio art", literally.

Not only is it the wrong category, but the wrong site altogether! There is no art script for NS.

Huh ? It's in the hardware section, not the script section...
In a sense you could say it's not the right category, but the idea is "off-beat" enough to intrigue me. Although I don't think we'll hear any of the music (read "screeching") on MTV anytime soon.

Would be fun to discover that reading the NS forums various photochop threads, makes a more pleasing audio stream, than reading the Newbie Bin contents. Or what about some "mood music", while watching G8t's streamed homemade pr0n, compared to the sounds originating when people tries to use Skype over WiFi...

But alas, I think streaker is right about the equipment necessary is cost prohibitive. Unless somebody hacks a digital to analog converter, and some kind of audio output onto a WRT54G.

I'm trying to figure out exactly where you're going with that. Either you're thinking too much about Catheters and their different types, or you're going along the lines of cathode's.

Yes I knew that. And since there is not a hardware component to interface with NS for the request I figured I'd also point out that there is also no script. In a previous career I used to listen to all kinds of "signals", most of them had a certain white noise (RCS) quality to them.

Hmmm, I have my dad's old Bearcat programmable scanner (are they illegal now?). I'm not sure if it covers this range or not... I'll have to do some research.

I doubt it would. Most scanners of that era would only go up to the 800mhz band at the very highest.

I think you're right. A quick google turned this up:

10 Channel Programmable Scanner - Receives: 30-50, 146-174, 416-512 MHz - Modes: FM - Introduced: 1978.

Updated with link to PDF Manual

If it did do 2.4ghz at that time period it would have only been listening to Amana Radar Ranges.

Don't talk to me about Catholicism and Opus Dei!

I think the world is unfair and unjust :

We print 10 cartoons of a dead religious figurehead in a medium sized newspaper that mainly caters to farmers and the danish version of hillbillies, and get embassies firebombed, and companies boycotted.

You publish a book, and then makes a friggin 2+ hour hollywood movie about a dead religious figureheads illegitimate children, and rake in millions of Dollars in foreign trade because of it.

The funny part is, it's the albinos who are all pissed off because it makes them look bad.

Granted, it does reek that they're making millions off that stupid movie, but I believe you meant to say 'rake'.
