Looking for 802.11b repeater
hi ,
I am looking for a 802.11b repeater with two external antennas , one for the link and one for the point to multipoint transmission. Does anyone can recommend me of these kinds of repeaters ? (It could be both indoor and outdoor unit's) Thanks Nadav |

repeaters
I have done some research on wifi repeaters. I am in college and short on money right now (well always) so haven't set a repeater network up yet. But I am waiting for a deal on fatwallet.com for the linksys WRT54G (I have scene it down to $10.00). There are serveral companies that make firmware upgrades for that model to support repearter mode it's called "WDS". I have also been told the WAP54g works well.
I know you wanted it for a 802.11b but the 54g's can be cheap if you watch for a deal. heres a link that discusses the firmware: http://channels.lockergnome.com/it/a..._routers.phtml I think this might work too: http://www.hyperwrt.org/ |

Cheapest, easiest route would be a WRT54G with OpenWRT using WDS. The antennas still operate in diversity mode, but the unit still operates as an AP but uses half the bandwidth for the backhaul to the other AP.
Helluva lot cheaper than a WET54G

one more vote for the WRT54g, make sure you dont buy the Version 5 though, it doesnt support aftermarket firmware: http://www.wrt54g.net/
this router is capable of crazy stuff though...it will even run at superG speeds (linksys calls it afterburner) with the right firmware :http://www.sveasoft.com/modules/phpB...pic.php?t=5992 |
