How do I install an external antenna on a Lucent Orinoco gold card. I don't see any ports to install anything.

Thanks in advance.

get a pin and pry off that little plastic disk on the end of the antenna. then get yourself a pigtail.

Extra note to Sage:

In case you didn't know ... Pigtails and antennae can be purchased at the following ...

It is not my site personally. Sean (one of the Fab-Corp reps) visits the site often. His username is Borg Man.

How far away is the park from your AP?

If range is a problem, maybe one of those 24DBi unidirectional dish antennas would help.

Speaking of which...does anyone know of an antenna rotator device that doesn't take forever to rotate around? I've considered putting one of those dishes with a rotator on my truck's roof rack (discretely concealed...like one of those roof-rack storage boxes or something) with the controller mounted internally.

It's about 3/4 of a mile. If I can't access my network. I will just stumble a closer netowrk and use that one if possible.

Talking Best Pigtail options???

I just ordered some Orinoco Gold cards. And I would like to know what the best option is for a pigtail connector.

From what i've learnt. The pigtail connectors sold by orinoco through Fab-corp are reliable however they are fragile.

Can someone suggest whether it makes more sense (financially) to buy the parts. N-type + MC Card connector and put a pigtail together or just purchase one from Fab-corp.com for $22.

Thanks.

I think the Borg Man himself explained that he hasn't seen a connector last longer than 100 connections... but I am sure this is due to normal wear and tear. Personally I think I have disconnected and reconnected my pigtail to my ORiNOCO over 500 times at least without a problem... I am so careful it hurts.

I read somewhere else on the board that putting one of these things together is a pain, and not worth the time really if you only need a few... Though Borg Man, and Fungus both make them and advertise on this board.
