Awesome, it worked well . . . had to downgrade the driver, run the FW update, upgrade the driver again, and I'm good to go . . . It doesn't say silver or gold, but it says +128bit encryption and it works, U guys rock!

will do. Will replace the drivers again here pretty soon...

I already have a .pda file (from flash.exe) and a .bin file (from Alchemy) so I do have it backed up.

yup... flash.exe reads the PDA fine. It's the FW that's corrupt and the WSU10872 won't even attempt to write a new FW.

Changing drivers now... Will update on the status of that on a 98 machine...

okay , thats very good....
flash.exe uses the PRI-firmware to read the pda.

hmm....okay , i write you a little tool that try to dump the pda over the old win-driver , if the only problem is that the wsu want only not find your card if it find a corruppt static firmware , and not cause the driver hate your card its no problem to flash you a good pda and a new firmware....

I tried the older driver on a 98 machine. Same thing. Windows recognizes it's a wavelan card but the driver says no card is present. The WSU says no valid card present.

-Mc

p.s. did you get my PM about the Hermes info?

OK...

The old drivers will not work with ANY of my wireless cards because they all have the newest FW. That includes the FW update utility. If I stick a good card with the old WSU you posted, it doesn't see the card.

Your util run in XP says: DeviceHandle -1 and all the rest of the values is 0. I get the exact same results if there is NO card inserted.

In 98, I get the same results.

What driver was this written for or does it matter?

i have tested this tool with my card that have sta fw 7.28 , and the old driver....it was no problem....
the wsu have too no problem to flash my card back to fw 4.25....

its for this drive rhere...
ftp://ftp.orinocowireless.com/pub/s...SK/wlwi_401.exe

i think it can only run on win98 , but if it says deviceHandle -1 then your driver its not the right or is not right installed....

your cards primary fw verison is 4.00 , or ???

hello everyone. I just read thru all of these pages and decided to try to upgrade my Orinoco re-brand 2wire card. I downloaded alchemy and that wouldn't work. It would give a writing pda error. Then tried the Agere FW updater and it wouldn't let me. It said there was a driver mismatch. So I downloaded proxims drivers that were linked a few pages back and installed the Orinoco 5 volt driver and was able to flash with the Agere FW updater. I think everything went successful because now the Client Manager says the card has 128-bit encryption rc4. So now my question is do I need to try alchemy again to make it fully 128-bit encryption?

Here is a firmware report from the Client manager:
Date: 2004/05/02 17:51:41

OS: WIN2001 Version 5.01 Service Pack 1 Build 2600

Variant 1, Version 3.02 of Client Manager
Variant 2, Version 7.82 of NDIS 5 Miniport driver
Variant 3, Version 4.02 of 2Wire Wireless PC Card
128RC4
Encryption capabilities: WEP + 128RC4
Max. data rate: 11 Mbit/s
02UT27362391
Variant 1, Version 4.04 of Primary Functions firmware
Variant 2, Version 9.14 of Station Functions firmware
PS I am now using the Airlancer drivers for wpa.
Thanks in advance
