That sounds like the fault of the adapter, not the GPS unit.

Have you got the drivers installed properly?

Is windows recognising a new serial port?

Does it work with any other devices?

Also, make sure you're not trying to share the serial port between NetStumbler and a second application.

Yes, Yes, I have no other devices to try, i don't think any app is using it.

Sounds like you may have NS or your GPS configured screwy. Check out Blackwave's recomendations here:

http://forums.netstumbler.com/showth...ng+serial+port

There is gigabytes of pages on here relating to setting up a GPS, I recomend searching around. You'll see many people advising using hyperterminal to view the NMEA sentances from the GPS. Try it, then you'll know if the pair are talking to one another.

Cool The most important thing, and I forgot to say it

Make sure you have a satelite lock before trying to use NS or any other application with your GPS.

Rumour has it, the maggelian (SP?) devices will only spit data out once they have got sat locks and worked out your position. All this needs to happen BEFORE you start Netstumbler.

The problem with USB to serial adapters is that IRQ's 3&4, the traditional serial port IRQs, cannot be assigned to a USB device, and there is no standard configuration for any serial ports above Com 1-4, this makes the use of such a device a hit or miss proposition.

try turning on hyperterminal to the COM port it's connected to. play with it until you see a NMEA stream coming in. then copy the settings to NS.
