Hi All,
I've done some searches, however, I'm not sure exactly what to search for so I'm going to create a new topic. Please point me in the right direction. I am using Microsoft MapPoint 2002 and a Magellan Meridian GPS. When I plug in the GPS into the Serial port and try to have MapPoint recognize the GPS, it fails. I have tried every COM port available without luck. I get this error message when trying to connect: Alternatively, I have tried using the GPS with Netstumbler which also does not work. Should I be installing some drivers? Some type of software package? All of the previous posts that I have read just instructed to enable NMEA on the GPS receiver (which I have already done), plug in and go. Thanks in advance. |

GPS needs to be configured for NMEA 2.0 output at 4800bps.
You can alternatively fire up Hyperterminal and see if the GPS sentences are being received on the port. That's where I'd check first.

I have the following settings for NMEA:
OFF v1.5 APA v1.5 XTE v2.1 GSA I currently have the v2.1 GSA setting clicked, because it's the only one > 2.0. Is this correct? Also, how do see if GPS sentences are being received within HyperTerminal? What option should i be looking for? Thanks |

Make sure your Com port is set correctly under the Device Manager. 4800,8,1,N. NMEA v2.1 GSA is fine.
NMEA sentences in HyperTerminal are pretty easy to see. Here's some I just captured in HyperTerminal, direct from my Magellan 315: $GPGSV,3,1,10,17,78,216,38,23,63,311,42,26,56,051, 41,15,52,303,43*7E $GPGSV,3,2,10,18,46,295,49,09,36,152,,29,36,053,,0 3,09,317,*7C $GPGSV,3,3,10,10,08,097,,06,04,203,,,,,,,,,*7C $GPGLL,4422.2935,N,07313.8332,W,005702.969,A*21 $GPGGA,005702.97,4422.2935,N,07313.8332,W,1,05,2.7 ,00075,M,,,,*3E $GPRMC,005702.97,A,4422.2935,N,07313.8332,W,00.0,0 00.0,150303,15.,W*67 $GPGSA,A,2,17,23,26,18,15,,,,,,,,2.7,2.7,*13 $GPGSV,3,1,10,17,78,216,36,23,63,311,42,26,56,051, 41,15,52,303,44*77 $GPGSV,3,2,10,18,46,295,49,09,36,152,,29,36,053,,0 3,09,317,*7C $GPGSV,3,3,10,10,08,097,,06,04,203,,,,,,,,,*7C $GPGLL,4422.2934,N,07313.8332,W,005705.031,A*23 $GPGGA,005705.03,4422.2934,N,07313.8332,W,1,05,2.7 ,00075,M,,,,*35 $GPRMC,005705.03,A,4422.2934,N,07313.8332,W,00.0,0 00.0,150303,15.,W*6C $GPGSA,A,2,17,23,26,18,15,,,,,,,,2.7,2.7,*13 $GPGSV,3,1,10,17,78,216,36,23,63,311,44,26,56,051, 39,15,52,303,42*78 $GPGSV,3,2,10,18,46,295,50,09,36,152,,29,36,053,,0 3,09,317,*74 $GPGSV,3,3,10,10,08,097,,06,04,203,,,,,,,,,*7C There is some info in the FAQ section regarding this.
