Mini Stumbler Equipment.
Hi
I've been asked to make a small and compact network scanner for my company. I've never worked with PDA's before so I'm asking for help to buy the right equipment. I need to be able to do the following: - Logging networks of 802.11 b and g (logging a would be a bonus). - Logging position with GPS. - In as small a form as possible. - At as low a price as possible I know the small form factor (SFF) is a problem when it comes to price. But PDA size is what we need. There is just one more thing. I've been searching for a PDA with GPS and 802.11 but not been succesfull. So I expect an expansion card is needed. Please only link to stumbler compatible hardware. Windows or Linux, we don't care. |

Are you planning on scanning inside a building? If so, a GPS isn't gonna do much for ya.

No the plan is to scan the areas around the buildings for starters, then when we know there is a network we will move inside to do a scan there.
We need the GPS to document that we caught the network in a specific area so that we can be allowed to wrek hawock in the department most likely to have put up an illegal accesspoint. |

Find an iPAQ 3800 series on Ebay with the external PCMCIA sleeve.
Buy an iPAQ 3800 series serial sync cord. Buy an ORiNOCO Classic Gold. FAB-Corp, WarDrivingWorld, Ebay. Buy a cheap GPSr which has serial output. Connect the sync cable to the GPS. Load ORiNICO drivers. Load MiniStumbler. Stick a fork in it, and call it done. Specifics abound of these forums for all of the above.
