Missing something?

OK so I have a proxim prisim 2 card (2wire) and it will not transmit packets in linux but it does it xp I ran alchemy with a pda file from the silver to gold fourm and then ran the wsu1872.exe program to update the firmware and it worked. This card works perfectly in xp but won't work in any linux is there a tool that I could use to put the firmware to a orinoco gold insted of a CISCO card? Alchemy dosen't work any more.

Yes, I think you missed the fact that there's a search button. The second fact I think you missed is that this is a Netstumbler software support forum. The third fact, that I'm sure you probably missed is the welcome desk.

I searched and read most of the silver to gold and read for hours. I know that this is a net stumbler fourm but only about 10% of the posts in this section relate to netstumbler. Most questions are about peoples networking troubles and configureing their hardware or random questions about setups and software.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy an Orinoco card?

No matter how many times you run Alchemy, no matter which .pda file you use, no matter which version of the WSU you run, there ain't no way you are going to make a prism2 based card into an ORiNOCO Classic Gold card.
ORiNOCO Classic cards use the Hermes chipset, not the Prism2 chipset.

That would probably be why it doesn't work in linux then. It's using the wrong drivers.

Maybe I am missing something. You say that you have no problems in winXP. You say that you are having trouble within the Linux OS using your card. You never stated which distro you are using. Do you even know?

I would suggest that if you are not having trouble using the card in a WinXP environment running Netstumbler, then go to the Linux website for your distro for help setting up your card(Using the drivers for your chipset, dumbass).

While you are there, tell them that the bad, mean people over at the NS forums ran you off like every other asshat does.

Do you understand that Wavelan was a trademark name for the Orinoco/Lucent/Agere/Proxim hermes-based card? Cisco, nor any of it's cards have anything to do with this silver to gold discussion. Different card, different chipsets, different firmware. They do not mix.

At this point the card is probably hosed. Just go buy a hermes based card on Ebay, $30 including shipping. Then go to the support site of the distro you are using. Search here for rebrand to get an idea of what cards to look for on ebay.

Face it, you are over your head with this. Just go buy what you need and save that card until you have the skillset and knowledge to play at the required level.
