Modding a tri-band pc-card (pictures), need help

Hi! I`m planning to add an external connector to my wlan card.

The card on the picture is a SMC 2536W-AG, and my question is where do I solder? there seems to be 4 antennas on the board

One pair of antennas will be for the 802.11b/g radio, the other pair will be for the 802.11a. to which radio were you planning on adding an external antenna?

There's been a lot of discussion here about modding b/g cards for antennas. A quick search will turn up many photos, pieces of advice and comments.

And not to nitpick or be a wise-arse.

A/B/G wifi cards are dual band / tri-mode cards.

GPRS cards are tri-band.

Yes, that is correct, 2,4 and 5GHz

Did a search, but only 2,4GHz card mods, nothing that could explain my case

But can anyone recomend what antenna i should use for the mod? i use b/g normally

If it were me...

I would mod it out as a pigtail then you can use different antennae to suit your current application. As for what antenna, that depends on what you are wanting to do. A directional if you are trying to hit a specific target and an omni if you want a broad coverage. I don't recall much info here on modding an "A" card, but there is plenty of info available on the "B/G" cards. Plenty of good antenna info in the antenna FAQ forum.

Just a note:

Make sure you have some kind of strain relief on the card end of that cable.

Nice work!

I can pic up 120+ AP`s at home right now, using home made biquad on parabolic dish.

Parabolic dish and my self

BiQuad in center of dish

Backside of dish

Big and cool stumbler file, pretty amazing result concidering that the antenna`s not portable and is stuck at a geographical point

Can somebody plz change the topic, my english is not the best
