Question Modding the WRT54G?

Been searching google for the last 2 hours - off and on - but cant find much of anything to modding the WRT54G for overclocking. I thought you guy's might have some better links. Are there any 'guides' out there? I'd be willing to make a 'better' guide if there is a relatively poor one out there - I'd just like to try my router at 84mW rather than the 48 I and 'safely' max it out at.

How hot does it get, and which part of it actually gets hot - that requires a heatsync/fan.

No rush, I need to find/buy a dremmel probly gona take a week or 2 or more

Edit: Slightly Useful Links: http://ihome.ust.hk/~westland/new_page_7.htm

know of anything better? - What temp. does it start freaking out and resetting?

Is it possibe to set the router with the ping hack, to odd mW's , like 50, 53, 57...? Should I use a Heatsync and Fan?

So do you want to overclock it, or do you want to increase the output power? They're entirely different things. AFAIK the only way to increase the output power is with the various third party firmwares. I don't know of any way to overclock wrt54gs though.

If you can't figure it out from the above, it was never meant to happen for you

go to www.sveasoft.com, and get the firmware there. I use it on all my wrt's with 100mw output.

I mounted a 4" fan right on the screen on the top of the router. I also cut some slots in the side, by the cpu and the power capacitor to increase airflow. If you wanted, drill out the top of the router. It's ugly, but you could use one of those glowing fans and put some strobe lights inside of the WAP to make it look cool.

Does yours get warm?

Also do you know of any adapter to connect those two antennas to 1 parbolic?

I was going to fix my sister up so she could get broad band from her business that she own to her home. It is only like 2 miles away but they dont have broad band at her home (what a jip).

sorry to get off topic there a bit.

Why would you connect both ports to one antenna? That's useless.

While we are on the antenna subject, I couldn't find a definite answer to whether one antenna does tx/rx while the other only does rx, or if they both do tx/rx.

I wouldn't think so because if I remember corretly some of the firmware actually allowed you to turn off one antenna so you could shorten the wifi network to keep people off of it?

Both are able to do either.
