Managed Switch Webinar
Wednesday, May 7, 2008 @ 10:00 AM EDT

Moxa's managed switches give you more control over your network and support Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for compatibility with IT networks. To build robust redundant and self-healing network connections between corporate networks and the factory floor, all Moxa managed switches support Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), Redundant Gigabit Ethernet ring and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP)/STP, IGMP snooping and GMRP for filtering multicast traffic from industrial Ethernet protocols (important for Ethernet/IP applications).

What You Will Learn:

The Managed Switch Webinar will explain everything you wanted to know about managed switches...but were afraid to ask!

Wireless Technology Webinar
Tuesday, May 13 @ 10:00 AM EDT

Wireless technologies have enjoyed unprecedented success which has led to them being adopted for many applications and settings, including industrial environments. Wireless solutions provide enhanced flexibility with device connections, and can help establish connections to stationary or mobile devices that would otherwise be impossible to connect. Plant machinery can be made much easier and simpler to access for diagnostic or programming purposes.

Are you ready for the convenience that comes from sending your Ethernet packets over the air instead of through a wire? If your application uses mobile equipment that is controlled over a TCP/IP network, or the cost of installing wire conduits at your work site is prohibitive, then consider setting up a wireless local area network (WLAN).

What You Will Learn:

Moxa's Wireless Technology Webinar will show you the benefits of going wireless and simplify wireless standards, specifications and options. The webinar will also address security with Moxa's Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security specifications to overcome weaknesses in Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). Attend this webinar and Moxa will explain this flexible, easy to deploy, high performance and cost effective technology and provide examples of wireless applications.

Wireless Technology Webinar Agenda: On_Cell_G2100_s

* Wireless Technology Webinar Agenda
* Wireles Standards, Specifications and Options
* 802.11 - A/B/G/N Specifications
* Reasons for going wireless
* Pro's and Cons of wireless
* AP, Client and Bridge - What' s the difference
* Wireless Security - WEP, WPA, Radius, EAP, TKIP, AES
* Roaming
* MOXA Site Survey Tool and Environmental Factors
* Examples of Wireless Applications

I installed Moxa switches at my plant, they're currently running in Turbo Ring configuration with no problems. They're easy to configure (as long as you don't use IE) and seem to be pretty robust. They have all the features you'd possibly want in a managed switch. I recommend them highly.

We are just getting started on a new plant and Moxa (or equal) was the specified gear. If we go with Moxa I'll post any hiccups we encounter.

I'll tell you something that I told Beak in IM about Moxa. They're great except, don't try to upgrade the firmware on them via the WebInterface. It don't work!

Out on Moxa's site they have a program that will scan the subnet and find the switches, with it, you can upgrade the firmware. Yes, I know, system integrators normally don't upgrade firmware, but if you're going to be using them in Turbo Ring mode, you'll want to upgrade the firmware.

Also, the new firmware takes into account for the new DST settings and I believe adds NTP. The Syslogging function is really robust, and you can have it email every time a port status changes. I really like them, as I was going to get SixNet switches, but our integrator couldn't find a source for SixNet, and asked if Moxa would be ok. After I read the spec's on Moxa I determined they'd suit.

When I had our contractors attempt to upgrade the firmware on a Modicon NOE module they bricked it.

I figured at that point, I wasn't going to have them do anymore.
