A pair of parabolic antennas would be quick and inexpensive, you can get 24db for about $75 ea. Though I haven't used this setup myself, there are dozens of accounts of similar setups on the net. My question is: why doesn't the Master of the Universe use Google?

3 miles with 24dBi parabolics is a breeze. you may not see your 5mb 100% of the time by factoring EM interference, humidity, sunspots, planetary alignment, and other WiFi voo-doo.
If you use LMR-400 with good connectors and keep the cable length under control, It should work just fine. I have a 24 mile link using the same setup but with 500mw amps on both ends.

Two well aimed 14-18dB directionals could probably nail that out pretty easy (or pretty close)... assuming you have the clear line of sight expressed in your initial post... then again, the parabolics sound like they may be cheaper anyways
