Netgear MA401
I recently got hold of a Netgear MA401 card with an external antenna connector but being a newbie, I'm not sure what type of connector it is. I believe it's an MC or MMCX. I can't get any info from Netgear tech support or from the data manuals. I've searched the net but no success. Does anybody have any idea from where/who I can get this info. If it helps, I've got a photo of the card/connector which I can post on reply. Many thanks for any help.....

1) Do NOT crosspost. It is considered VERY RUDE. Please delete your other post.
2) Please post the picture, it will help.

Being a newbie doen't excuse you from following etiquette. In fact, you should be more careful about stepping on toes, as no one here knows you yet. BTW, that goes for almost all forums. ----------------------- The connector appears to be an MC, but due to the resolution it's hard to tell. Can you get a closeup? If you have one, a flatbed scanner is sometimes better at this than a camera. Do you have the FCC ID or Model revssion number? The original MA401 did not have a connector, and this must be a new version.

OK, it's Revision D. The FCC recently approved it. The FCC internal photos look like it is an MC, but there is nothing to say that positively from what I saw on the FCC data.
Do you know anyone with an ORiNOCO pigtail? You could just try plugging one into your card. That would confirm it one way or another. ------------------------------- BTW, when posting a photo of a card, it is a good idea to white out your MAC and SN. People with bad intentions can copy the MAC, and then make their PC appear to be your PC. Just FYI.

MA401 External Antenna
Eventually found that it is a U.FL connector. The only source I can find is at
http://www.elfa.se/elfa/produkter/en/5835.htm Unfortunately, it only comes with a right angle connector which is impossible to fit in to the hole above the surface mounted connector on the card. I had to take off the plastic cover, fit the pigtail and then cut a small notch in the cover to feed the coax through. The cover keeps the pigtail firmly in place. The cable is only 1.3mm dia so it's a bit fiddly to solder a connector on to the other end but I used an SMA male so there's not too much strain on the pigtail. Results are great-see pics of improvement with external 3dB omni. |
