Question New antenna jack (D-Link 614+)

I'm in the process of installing a new BNC antenna jack in my D-Link 614+ A/P.

I haven't soldered an antenna wire to the jack yet, because I was wondering if anyone could answer the following:

1) What kind of wire I should use?
2) Will I have to disconnect the original antenna (Circle 'C') before a solder the new one in place.
3) Any ideas what that load (Circle 'A') in the antenna cable might be?

Thanks in advance.

Can't really se the circle's or lettering in the Pic.

But to answer question 1: I would use LMR-100A. It's thin, small, and made for Microwarve Freq's.

BNC is a very poor connector for microwave applications. Go with SMA or N if you can.

You could also use a RP-TNC / TNC. These are the standard
Connectors for most AP's

FAB. In a heartbeat. See:

http://www.fab-corp.com/

They have every kind of connector you'll ever need in Wi-Fi work.

Are you intending to use a BNC jack because you already have something with a BNC plug on it? BNCs are terrible for microwave work. If you have a run of cable with a BNC on the end of it, that might in fact be low-band cable (like RG-58) and it will eat virtually all of your signal if you have more than ten or fifteen feet of it.

In Wi-Fi work, the type of cable and connectors you use matter a lot. Don't use just any old thing.

Good luck with it and let us know how you do.
