Ive just got a Belkin AP and now have it set up
I want to be able to monitor the traffic on the AP. tha AP manager software only lets me know howmany are associated with it but I would like to be able to log users and if its been stumbled its connected to my router via Cat5 Im still new to all this Ive done some searching but still confused all i want to know is if someone connects and have it logged and not the traffic between the ap and the user

It may not support Belkin, but look at DigitalMDX's great program NSSpyGlass. Otherwise there isn't really any way to just detect NS. This also won't tell if kismet (or any other wireless discovery tools) has picked up your AP.
On the otherhand, if you are going to share your AP with the public, and looking for a way to have people actually log on to your AP to get to the Internet, then search on "captive portal" and look at ControlAP, NoCat, and Mikrotik.

If you get an AP that can output to a syslog server, you can log access nicely. Though it's a fairly common feature, I don't think your Belkin does it. I can think of at least one alternative, but it's rather cumbersome.
