Newbie Question
I'm looking for a new setup and am thinking the Buffalo G card and the Techno Lab 10db. Is this a good setup for a newbie?
Details: I've got a Linksys WRT54G at home that I will be connecting to with my daughter's new laptop. I haven't bought a PC card for her yet but think the Buffalo G card will work with the Linksys and Netstumbler? We are going on vacation in June and will be searching for Net access. The Techno Lab 10db http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=20321 looked like a good antenna. Any good cheaper alternatives would be appreciated too. Lastly, what pigtail will work with the above setup and where do I get it? ![]() |

Your best bet is an Orinoco card. External antenna jack and guaranteed to work with NetStumbler. It will work with your Linksys AP but not at 54mb.
The antenna should work fine but I would be wary of the guy's claim that it holds at 110. He didn't test it on that Ferrari in the picture since it's all aluminum. I love these guys with vettes and Ferraris with mag mounts. It's a cool picture but there's no way in hell they stick to fiberglass/aluminum/carbon fiber exotics.

I have been looking for that omni for a while now! Thanx for posting the bid info. I have just ordered an omni and yagi from www.fab-corp.com (Terrific company from what I have read in the forums) and I can't wait to test them out. If you do get the Techno Lab omni please post a reply and let us know if it works as well as the auctions says it does.

bought some gear
I ended up with the "proven" setup. Fab-corp 5dbi mag antenna w/ 19" pigtail and Dell Truemobile 1150 (rebadged Orinoco Gold).
Willing to give up G access at home. Got Stumbler Special from fab-corp at $60 for antenna and $15 for pigtail. Went with Dell 1150 because I could get it for $45 bucks. Total setup cost $120 + shipping. We'll see how it works. ![]() |
