4) Can you use netstumbler to sheck signal strength from a client and not the AP? I read through the FAQ and instructios for netstumbler, but did not find it(sorry if I missed it).

Thanks for yoru help.
NetStumbler is an active sensor. If your camera does not answer with an SSID to a probe request, NS will not detect it.

The rest of your questions do not fit the Newbie Lounge definition of 'basic Netstumbler questions'.

Go read all the Welcome Desk threads, or put on your nomex undies.

Shooting wifi through a metal barn is like heating a sealed soup can in the microwave. Shoot through the window.

That's why you're not supposed to stand in front of it.

Those are the same frequency that 802.11 is running on correct? Isn't that why we get alot of noise when we are around alot of non-network wireless devices?

thanks for sending me to the welcome threads. I read them and that is why I posted here,Isn't that what the welcome thread in this topic says "POST HERE FIRST TO GET THE FEEL OF THE PLACE". I felt it would be a little less hostile since this was my first post on the forum and i am a noob at this whole topic.

I was trying to follow the lead of the help with 1 mile network thread or the pimp your barn thread. Seams my questions fall in line with those, although I am not nearly as bright and have not been able to find nearly as much info as he did.

Thanks for the quick info on netstumbler and its basis of peration. Netstumbler is a very user friendly application.

And for the last questions. Where do you propose that I should ask my other questions? Under one of the other topics or at another site all together? I am trying to weed out the huge volumes of information that may or may not be correct, this looked like a place to get good answers.

Check out your shift key, its only working 65% of the time.

Why does it matter where it is? Your post is still alive at the moment.
