Omni antenna using a CB mag mount?

I tried searching for this but i dont think that i am using the right criterea........Is it possible to use the same gauge wire for the antenna that fits in the same whole for a cb antenna, using the same method to adjust SWR as a cb.....will this through off the ghz?? has it been done before and finally do you understand what i am saying because its kind of a vauge desciption.

it isn't the guage of the wire that matters.. it is the frequency that the cable supports. cb is made for lower frequencies not microswave frequencies. people try this all the time with attempted substitutes and fail miserably... read up on some antenna theory and you will be fine.

If you are asking if it is possible to use a CB antenna mount with the associated cabling, and a CB antenna matching transformer, then the answer is "maybe" but highly unlikely. There will be a so much loss that you probably won't get much (if any) signal through to the card. The only thing working in your favor is that it is the correct impedience. (50 Ohms)

CB is at 27 MHz, while 802.11b is 2500 MHz. You really need the cabling and connectors that are engineered for for the higher (microwave) frequencies.

Even if the cable and connectors are good, get ready to get out the good ol' lineman's pliars and cut that antenna down a bit.

IMHO, investing in a decent magmount antenna is worth its cost over and over. The antenna is one piece of equipment you shouldn't go cheap on.

the cabling part is what i was worried about, i wasnt shure if it would support the higher frequinces but figured you guys would know......thanks for the VERY quick response time. Better than most citys PD. Im really starting to love the realm of homebrew antennas, i saw some things where guys have made their own mag mounts and was just curious if this would be an easier way. thanks for all the valuable info
