OpenAP Project
I was just wondering if anyone else had done this yet? I own the SMC2652W AP and am curious to see how much better of a throughput I get. Plus you can do all kinds of new things not previously allowed by the factory firmware. Very cool.

I am in the process of trying to do this. It has been a struggle getting linux installed on one of my laptops, getting linux to recognise my SMC 2632 card, and getting linux to recognise my PCMCIA SRAM card, all in the same install. I do believe that i may have a bad SRAM card, and when I come across a working one, I should be able to finish. I will let you know how it works out. This would be a lot nicer than spending almost $500 a piece for SMC's bridges!

I got a simple question, or perhaps I'm just a simpleton, but why can't they just post the sram image file? Why do I need to put linux on a PC to do this?
Grey who knows nothing about linux

here is an alternative to openAP which runs on regular pc hardware. all you need to do is download the ISO and burn it. i tried booting up an old laptop from the CD w/ a USR2410 prism card and it worked fine.

This is an old thread.
But I dont mind. I know the answer ![]() In answer to your questions: OpenAP can only be installed with a PCMCIA memory card. Remote flashing of the device only works once the operating system is installed, the hard way...
