Opening a DLink DI-713p?
a friend of mine just got a DLink DI-713p.
does anyone know how to open up the case? i don't see any screws and can't seem to get it apart w/o cracking it. we're wondering if it has a PCMCIA card inside or just a PCB. btw, it's the new model w/ the silver case and no red plastic on the front. TIA

try prying it off with a screw driver, how important to you is the case? It is most likely a snap on type deal. Try and find the points where it snaps together and try to pry those points open. You most likley will damage the plastic a wee bit but should be to bad if your careful.

well, it's brand spanking new so i'm trying to avoid voiding the warranty. tried prying but there are some places where it just won't let go. it's a pretty weird case design, actually.
does anyone know if there's a PCMCIA card in there? that's all we are really trying to figure out.

The dlink 713P does indeed have a pci card inside it. Reason i know this is i was given one such router due to the wireless aspect of it not working. Decided one stormy day to open it up and take a look.. low and behold the PCI card inside the unit had become unglued and slipped out of the PCMCIA Holder.. All i had to do was plug it back in, apply a little glue.. turned on the router and low and bhold wireless functionality. Happy ever since.
I've also tried to plug the same pci card into my laptops pcmcia slot, it gets detected as an unknown D-Link card.. And thats about as far as i went with the investigation. |

D-Link DSL-604+ sneaky pcmcia card
to my surprise and slight amazement (tho nothing amazes me these days) i found a pcmcia card inside my wireless router today.
the card itsself was sort of stuck in but came out without much trouble but its mostly unmarked other than to say its a "pcmcia 22Mbps wireless adapter" so i came online and searched with the terms d-link and pcmcia card inside and got here. now the point what in all hell is the type of that little monstrosity? it has two holes for pigtails and i think it would work real nice in a laptop but are there drivers for it? surely someone knows. id like to make it work in my laptop just for the hell of it and if it was really good i may forget that i removed it and get a replacement for that stupid wireless router that only works thru the 4 port switch and not on wireless ) |

Does the PCMCIA card have a FCC ID on it? That is prolly your ticket to discovering the most about the card. Find it and SEARCH here, yahoo/google and/or fcc.gov.

sneaky pcmcia card
ok guys the unit is very discrete, it is plain silver with a white sticker and when inserted in a laptop it doesnt protrude out of the slot at all.
i looked closer and indeed found the following: wireless 22Mbps pcmcia module model:gl242202-0ta fccid:07j-gl242204-0t im going to search with this now. i also assume that the thing works on two channels synchonously to give the 22Mbps hence the two pigtail holes on the end of it. i also wonder if i could get any old card to work in the box if i had a chip programmer and the drivers.??? well i did say i do things for the hell of it!!!! |

[\QUOTE] yes, it does bond 2 channels together, but the 2 pigtails are for antenna diversity...the AP has 2 antennae doesn't it?
