Orinoco AP-200
Ok, the people at Agere phoned me up to tell me that my long delayed low cost AP-200 is on its way, they have been shipping for about two weeks now.
http://www.orinocowireless.com/templ...93&envelope=94 The first batch was supposedly recalled because of an overheating power supply. On the one I get I'm gonna strap a big heatsink to it just to be on the safe side. http://www.nwfusion.com/net.worker/c...18kistner.html I might do a mini review when it comes in. It should be firmware upgradeable to the upcoming security standard 802.11i (Wep 152 ???) and comes with a 150mhz processor fast enough to handle more sessions with quicker response than their older AP. |

*snip*
Enhanced security The AP-200 offers enhanced security features for home and small office networks. For wireless communication, the AP-200 uses WEP plus and 128-bit RC4 encryption to secure wireless data communication. The AP-200 also features Access Control and a 'closed system' making unauthorised access more difficult. In addition system configuration can be password protected allowing only administrators to alter settings. *snip* So WEPplus must be something new? Kinda weird the vender doesnt mention that on their page, but the review does. |

they've had wep plus for a few months now. the 802.11b products such as the RG-1000/1100 all support it w/ the latest firmware upgrades. wep plus is lucent's method of avoiding the so-called "weak keys" which make it relatively easy to crack WEP.
to use it, you must have orinoco devices on both client/AP sides w/ firmware/drivers to that have wep plus enabled.

Its very inexpensive. Thats why I'm getting it.
I've already preordered mine for $260 Cdn, but Americans should be able to find it for under $180US street. There is also the BG-2000, which looks to be the exact same as the AP-200 with NAT and firewall. Its probably just a function of the firmware though like the AP-500 and RG-1000 that are interchangeable. http://www.personaltelco.net/index.c...rmwareSwapping |
