I have been poking around with retailers trying to get someone to tell me if their cards have these connectors. Apparently a number of them do, and you don't have to disassemble the card to get to them. Just pulling back the sticker will get you to the connector.
From the guy I contacted: "The plastic piece on the antenna where the LCD lights are labelled actually can be pulled off, revealing the surface shown in my image. You see a connector there, it looks just like a uFl connector on a mini PCI card, but reversed (on an Orinoco mini PCI card for example, the connector is male, but on this Orinoco card it is female. I do not know if the connector is active, I have no way to test it as the only mini PCI cables I have are female. I do know it is not the same type of external antenna connector found on an Orinoco card like the 8470-WD model, which is an MC card connector." So it's apparently NOT an MC connector, and it looks like it's a female ufL connector. Usually miniPCI cards have male ufL connectors, so I can't find any retailers with the right cable to connect with it (male ufL to N-male in my case). Let me know if you find one! I've ordered one anyway and will get back to you guys with a better picture when it shows up. It does look from the first picture though, that the connector is active since the trace for the lower antenna goes through the connector and would otherwise not be connected. Bummer for JetPilot but good thing he took his off otherwise we wouldn't know this! |

Sorry for neglecting to post the image in my first post, here it is anyway.
Also, anyone interested should PM me and I'll send you the name of the place that has confirmed their cards have these connectors. http://cer.ucsd.edu/~james/img/8480connector.jpg |
