I have a Compaq WL110 which is as I understand a re-badged Orinoco Gold card.
I currently have "Station Functions Firmware Variant 2, Version 7.54" and "Client Manager Variant 1, Version 2.18". I can run this card in promiscuous mode using WinPcap 2.3 and Ethereal. I would like to use it in Monitor mode using the Wildpackets drivers. Is it possible to 'downgrade' the firmware to 6.16 by using the Orinoco firmware version on the WL110? Will this mess up the Client Manager that I run under W2K and the one on my Ipaq? Thanks, Christian |

No need
I bought my WL110 not to long ago. I have never had to downgrade anything. It works fine in XP. I had to just force XP to use the 'WildPackets' driver. Since then, everything has worked! I dont' have the full version of WildPacket's software, but the demo works great and I get all packets in any network. I just had to force XP to use the drivers. I don't know what o/s you are using though.

I'm running Windows 2000. I haven't even bothered getting the Wildpackets driver, since I thought it wouldn't work with my firmware.
What firmware version are you running? How did you 'force' XP to use the driver? Thanks, Christian |
