First off, Hello. I have been browsing your fourums for sometime and have found it to be quite useful. thanks for having an informitive resource.

Ok now that is taken care of. I have a preseption question that I'd like to ask about the personal preferrence twards the Orinoco Gold.

I have noticed that alot of people perfer this card. why is that?

I have googled it and still am not sure why its a favorite.

is it just that fact that it is able to accept an external antenna.

Just curiouse.

External antenna.
High receive sensitivity.
Well supported by various applications used in wireless network auditing.
Well supported on ALL versions of the MS Windows operating system, including plain old Win98.
Well supported on various variants of *nix operating systems, ranging from commercial Unix's to opensourced deriatives like *BSD and Linux.

And please do yourself a favour, read all the posts in the Welcome Desk section, especially the post regarding the usage of proper written English.
Not using capital letters according to the standard rules that English and most other languages have, will just get your posts moved to the Newbie Bin, and you branded as lazy.

Because it is the ONLY card 100% supported under NetStumbler. You did notice that this was the NetStumbler forums right?

Be sure you get the Orinoco Classic Gold. I made the mistake of getting a Proxim ORiNOCO 11b/g PC Card Gold card - wrong chipset and doesn't work with NetStumbler. Proxim did produce a card called the ORiNOCO 11b Classic Gold Card (8410-WD) and does produce the ORiNOCO 11b Client PC Card (8420-WD). I have not used either of them, but they are reported to work with NS. I use a Lucent Technolgies branded Orinoco 11Mbit/s Gold card (FCC ID: PC24E-H-FC). You can still get them from www.fab-corp.com (spendy) and I would assume they are available on eBay, but I've not looked for them there.

Bottom line: you've got to have the right chip set in the card for NS to work reliably.

Yes, but you'll need to install Slargleblast first.

You'll need to drink one of those before you attempt the installation on Winders 3.0
