Exclamation Orinoco gold 802.11b pcmcia card PC24E-11-FC/R driver / firmware problems

Hi guys,
Ive just started learning about wardriving, using netstumbler, and using a wep cracking program (airocrack..etc) to test my wireless security....
I have recently purchased an Orinoco gold 802.11b pcmcia card for my laptop, has PC24E-11-FC/R on it but cant find any other relavent information on the card for ID purposes... i was recomended using this card as a starter. I am using windows XP as i have no clue about linux (i get the impression this is bes to use for these purposes though). Airocrack does not work with this card and netstumbler starts to hang afer a random amount of time with it running... i have searched for hours for any driver or firmware updates but the orinoco site seems defunked and repaed by the proxim one which only has stuff for new cards.. can someone please help me out with this please,
Thanks,
Ryan

Hey, from my research there are 3 Orinoco Gold Cards. There is little or no differnece (Just the exterior view and I think the aerial connector etc). The Gold bit only means an increase of WEP capicity from 64 bit key to 128bit key (Sorry, not really relevant). The drivers do exist and i'll try find them. Try Google etc. Also, do you plan to run the driver under XP or a Linux Distro?

Is there an echo in here?

Search the forum on orinoco error and you will discover what is causing the problem.

As for drivers try driverguide

Hope you find the driver ok. Beware that i found some drivers dont like "Long Range" usage. maybe i'm wrong but in side by side tests some favour long range ops more than others.

All the best,

Care to elaborate on how a driver doesn't like 'long range'?

I cant really. Its more of a personal observation. I just found the Ageres driver would connect to a AP about 500m away while the Windows based "standard" driver wouldnt. I cant think of a reason why it wouldnt connect.
