OriNOCO Gold card dies?

I was out wardrivin tonight and all of a sudden I wasn't
pickin up any more AP's.

So I closed net stumbler and reopened it and it now says
no card found.

The OriNOCO utility says the same.

Anybody else have the same prob?

You must have been hit...

..by the Stumble Virus or ECM. There is a virus or ECM out that works off of SNMP traps. When a rogue client on an AP is detected, the virus attempts to hack the rogue machine and flash their WLAN card.

If you're familure with free satalite service, then you're familure with ECMs (electronic counter measures).

Your card is probably locked like the ASICs on satalite and will have to get a new one. I have taken preventative measures and insulated my PCCard pins (1, 3, 5, 7, & 11) to prevent the necessary programming. How you choose to isulate is up to you.

Works now

I took out of my machine and went to bed last night figuring
I'd deal with it in the morning.

Works now and I didn't do a thing to it.

How do you insulate the Pins?

That ECM is very cool also.

Thanks

OH MY GOD!

Damn!!! This happened to me lastnight 2 times!

I just ejected it and put it back in then it worked fine... I got some firmware error right when it stopped working!

Anyone have any more info about ECMs and such!?

Also, about protecting the flashing?

THANKS!

ECM on Lucent / Agere Gold Card

Tron Of Borg, you should talk to Tom Clacy.

This is a great idea for a SCI Fiction Book.
You are one F..... Up individual.

Do you have any ideas what the pings are for? Are you aware that you can't program the Flash BIOS over the Air? If someone could get that code to program the FLASH I would like to know. I could make big money ungrading Silver to Gold Card. ( This is true, It's the same Hardware )

The best part is I think you believed it yourself.

WLAN Virus

I think that he may need to get a bootloader for his Orinoco card since the write once boot sector of his card has been written to.

In addition he may need to start using emulation to protect his card from future WLAN Viruses. Gotta stay one step ahead from DaveAP.

I joined the DaveTV fan club last year. Got a tee-shirt with David Lee Roth and Tammy on it.

Just plain old EMU on a P133 on one TV. Barely watch TV, usually when I do, it's Screensavers on Tech TV, or a movie once in a while.

I usually find about ECMs through friends who watch everyday and call to say their picture is out and ask for an update.

When this happens, then I end up load balancing between DaveTV and DaveAP to get a fix and to test out the fix before sending it to my friends.
