Orinoco Gold card and windows XP

Just installed XP (not sure I like it yet) can't get the wireless card to work. Control panel says hardware is fine driver ok. wlluc48.sys. card won't connect to network although it appears to try. client mgr says driver not available. Netgear wireless card works fine.

is there another driver to make this work with XP?

You don't want to install the client utility.

You want to let Windows manage your wireless config. XP and client utilities tend to conflict.

Did you set the WEP Key?
RIGHT click the icon in the taskbar/select "View Available Wireless Networks"/Click on yours, inputting ascii of WEP Key if necessary.

If WEP is required on AP but not configured in Gold Card, change the config to enable access control under authentication and manually set the channel in the card config.

It took me several tries to stabalize my XP config after I installed the client utility before I knew better.

Might also try reverting to the native WinXP driver if using the Lucent/Orinoco/Agere or vice-versa.

there was also a problem with XP on default installs. make sure to do all the upgrades at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. as intruder said, take the client manager out and use the XP zero config. if it's not working make sure the service is set to "auto" in the administrative tools > services.

I was able to install it without removing the client manager. I just downloaded all of the updates from Orinoco and it worked out fine, I did the firmware update as well. I heard of others having problems with the install, maybe I got lucky.

Which updates did you download? I also can't seem to get to any client config screen to edit channels, SSID's, etc.

First, for 2K/XP as in the manual you do not want to install the software that came on the CD, there is a little flyer that explains this that comes in the box. It dictates to visit their site and download their latest posted software... I have XP and have installed the driver only on my stumbling setup, and for fun the manager on another system... both systems work fine and without a hitch with NetStumbler.
