Your card doesn't like you. <jk>

Have you tried using the card with the AP unencrypted? What OS are you running? Client Manager or XP Zero Config?

I'm betting the OS is XP. It's the one OS that seems to have a serious aversion to encryption for some reason. I just set one up for a friend yesterday, and had to re-enter the WEP key a half dozen times before it would connect. Sometime trying several different keys does the job.

It's the same story every time I've configured WEP with XP, but once it finally gives in, everything works fine and it's unlikely to suddenly "break."

Encryption Round 2 (Ding Ding)

OK. I really trashed that first post, Not near enough info
running 98 II, the card (Orinoco gold) works great over all.

Let's say I am going to use 128 encryption I choose "deathfromabov" for my pass phrase.
In the linksys router wep page I type that pass phrase in and generate the key.

Now I go to my laptop, go to the orinoco "set security" page
I check the encrypt box ok what's next?

I have tried most things. I am just missing something.
what's funny is, It sees the AP when WEP is active. I have done some testing if I change the WEP password on the router the card goes to search witch it should. if I enter the correct WEP it find's the AP everything seems hunky dory but no surfing I take off encrypt it works fine???

Thanks

When you get to the security page, you should just type in the WEP that you generated...the hex key you generated without any spaces.

This thread is from Jan '02 (the original forum board.) It explains what you need to know.

I've done this many times with Linksys equipment and ORiNOCO.
