ORiNOCO Gold PCMCIA
Hi.
I just bought the card with win xp, and a dell 8200 insperion. The problem I'm having is configuring the card. I can't connect it to my Linksys AP. I don't know where in the configuration to change channel, add a ssid network name, and configure wep, etc. I can find the network with netstumbler and connect. If I turn off "Allow "Broadcast" SSID to associate" I can no longer find the network with netstubler or connect. I used http://www.orinocowireless.com/template.html for the driver, without using the cd software (it didn't have xp drivers). Is there any other software I need to add? Thanks Phil |

It sounds like you don't have the client manager loaded. It should be on the CD that shipped with the card.
An alternative is to allow XP to manage the card, which is how I do it - I use the native XP drivers - and the configuration on my machine can be set from START/SETTINGS/NETWORK CONNECTIONS rightclick the wireless connections & select properties, pick the wireless networks tab, check the "Use Windows ... " box at the top, and then click configure and do your stuff. Oh - I'm using XPPro |

disasble ssid broadcast
you need to type the exact name in the client manager to join the network if ssid broadcast is off.
netstumbler won't pick it up. see why kismet is better? ![]() that's the whole point of that broadcast option. if your wep settings haven't changed, typing the exact name in the client manager should help. channel selection should be automatic so you don't have to worry about that. |

Bummed
Well, I did have client manager loaded, but it didn't look like the one that was in the book. I couldn't even find a place to put in a network name, or type in a string for wep. It was only looking for an orinoco AP. Maybe it didn't all get loaded. Well, it is somewhat irrevalant now. I tried system restore, to undo everything, and the laptop crashed hard. Blue screen of death in xp pro. Go figure, I thought it wasn't supposed to do that. It doesn't even power up. Well, this will have to wait. Thanks.

I had the samething happen to me, the only way I finally got it to work was to reload xp on my machine. I had several other wireless cards on the machine before I got my avaya card, maybe it had something to do with there drivers. On xp the only way it seems to me to get an ap reconized it with the network properties because the connection manager software says xp has native wireless support.

In my XP system the ORiNOCO client has sort of merged with XPs manager. I can pull up the standard client window, but there is no drop down box to pick configurations from. That has to be done via the XP manager.
