ORiNOCO gold problems
Ok.... I used the search button and I didn't find anything relating to this, if anyone knows of a link I’ll just go wear the dunce cap for awhile. I got my stumbler special yesterday, and I was very excited with the prospect of ditching my pathetic netgear wireless card. After installing all the drivers, to my disgust, I still could not connect to my own network. I had a perfect signal according to the meter, and according to network neighborhood I had sent 1000 packets give or take, but received none. I'm running WEP encryption on my Netgear MR-814 router, and an MAC address access list, but I’m sure of the fact I entered the correct WEP key on my laptop. Right now, it is set to automatic under the little menu on the router that asks if you want to use automatic, shared key or open key. I tried it with open key just for the heck of it, and it still did not work even after reconfiguring the laptop for shared key. I know all my security settings are correct, as I could not receive a signal before I entered the WEP key. Has anyone ever heard of an issue like this before? I'm running windows XP the dell laptop. Here’s the really strange part…. I can stumble with it just fine, and I nailed 22 AP’s just in one block in my neighborhood. My network still works fine when I use my old netgear card.
Thanks |

Yes, I had already done both things you mentioned before my post. Neither worked. However, I called Orinoco and they said it was a device conflict. The problem is I have no way to change the IRQ's. Does anyone know how to do this if the check box in device manager is grayed out?

IRQs can eitgher be changed in the BIOS during startup (most of the time) or in Device manager (in Windows) for *nix, beats the hell outa me.
Note: changing IRQs requires a reboot.

XP doesn't allow for changing IRQ's (unless you hit F3 I think it is when your installing from the disk which disables ACPI). Anywho go either search or signup and ask at forums.windrivers.com and ask NooNoo in the Tech-to-Tech area and she'll get ya squared away.
(PS I'm gollo over there ) |
