Other htan Cisco and Lucent, who ELSE supports EXTERNAL ANTENNAs ?

I think the reason the lucent antenna has done so well and is so popular is due to the ability for it to connect to an external antenna.

Cisco can do it as well...

who else?

any of hte manufactueres that have the PRISM2 chipset in em have external antennas? I dont feel like hacking/modding the crap outta it, i end up burning my thumb when i use the soldering iron

PRISM2 chipsets are in the cards like the linksys, SMC, netgear (i think), etc cards.

maybe we could start a list of all the cards that have external connectors?

also while we are at it. Can the lucent pigtail be interchaged with cisco cards as well? do they use the same MMCX connector (that really really small connector on the end of the pigtail) I have two pigtails and only 1 wireless card, i want to get a cisco next, and if i can save a couple bucks, then why not hey?

external antennas

I do not believe there are any other "consumer" pcmcia cards that have external antenna jacks other than lucent/orinoco. There are professional cards/ systems that have them (cisco, proxim, etc) but these are too expensive for most people. An easy 802.11 device to modify for an extenal antenna is the d-link dwl 120 usb. They have a small moveable antenna connected to the board with a small, thin piece of coax. It is easily removed and replaced with a length of coax (rg-58)and connector (tnc, sma, n, etc). Other usb nic's with external moveable antennas will probably be similar as well. And yes- you will have to solder this coax on.

Compaq cards, and others as well ARE re-labeled lucent cards.

ORiNOCO Silver/Gold
Compaq WL110
Cisco Aironet
Buffalo Tech WLI-PCM-L11

ORiNOCO is still the best, and we sell them for cheap.<Br> www.wifidirect.com

You forgot Zoom!!!

Zoom has a Prisim based card with external antenna:

The model 4105 has an external antenna and a PCI adapter for the PCMCIA card.

AFAIK this is the only Prisim based card with a factory external antenna.

Correction to above statements:

The Cisco Aironet 35x PC card DOES NOT have an external antenna port.

The PCI client has an external antenna port but the PCMCIA card in the PCI carrier WILL NOT work in a standard PCMCIA Slot.
