Parabolic offset dish and no gain

Hi,

I have a Linksys router in my brothers house less than 300m from my building, i can detect his AP directly without using a offset parabolic dish with signal strenght at 45% and speed at 5.5 Mpbs, but its too weak and keeps getting disconnected so i tried using a parabolic offset dish with my Belkin F5D7051 125Mbps super speed USB wifi adapter. I have kept the adapter at the focal point of the dish, that is where the LNB feed horn used to be, But i see no difference in signal strenght or speed when i point it as the same location. With or without the dish its the same strenght and speed?

Could someone tellme what am i doing wrong in the setup?

Thanks

Are you sure you have the dish aimed correctly?

yes i tried aiming it generally anywhere towards the horizon but no effect on signal at all. I just dont know whats the problem. I am really out of ideas. Is something wrong with the way i have placed my USb adapter into the lnb slot?

here is a picture of the dish setup and offset feed

Don't those type of dishes need aimed so they are pointing below horizontal? Do you have the antenna properly polarized?

How is the USB device antenna positioned in relationship to the dish?

Do you have the FCC ID of the Belkin, or a good picture of the business end?

Belkin FCCID:K7SF5D7051

well the dish used was used before to get satellite feed like DISH network, it was not in use so i thought to use it as a wifi dish. The USB adapter was removed from the casing. I emptied the lnb inside components to leave just the plastic covering in which i put the usb adapter. The antenna i suppose is on one of the sides of the usb adapter chip. Its a long shiny part and i think thats the antenna.

please let me know what can be done

That dish needs aimed so it looks like it is looking more towards the ground (negative elevation). Did you try that? Are you sure the Belkin is really working?

The adapter is working and detecting AP's, the problem is that it doesnt make a difference if i use the dish or if i use the adapter independently, both ways the signal strength and speed remains the same. The dish seems to be doing no good.
I have tried putting the dish a little up so that it becomes horizontal but the results are the same. I stay on the 8th Floor of this building do you think that can be a problem? the rest of the buildings here are smaller than mine so i have full line of sight but yet the signal quality sucks.

i get a little gain if i put aluminum foil across the usb adapter's antenna just a little more gain, but the dish is not helping at all. is there a problem with the orientation of the usb adapter? should it be kept vertical rather than horizontal like how i have kept it?

I would think that if the AP you're connecting to doesn't have a similar setup, your problem is there. After all, you might be hitting it with a ton of bricks, but it's just not getting back to you.

If you're on the 8th floor I imagine you will need a bit more negative elevation than what's in that picture. And streaker also has a very good point!

Just in case you don't understand, that means point it down somemore.
