Lightbulb possible routed wireless range

I live out in the sticks and want broadband. I have been toying with the idea that I could get an 802.11 link to someone with broadband (say DSL/Cable) who is 18 miles away.
First assumption: I can get a good point-to-point at about 10 miles with with 18 db waveguides. <p>
Now lets say my range I need is 18 miles. Could I set up a send and rcv station on each end (each end would have an antenna and a WET-11) of the 18 mile stretch with a station in between with 2 antennas, 2 WET-11s' hooked to a switch? The WET-11's would be setup in adhoc mode. Ponder this.

1) An 18 mile link can be done; fairly easily, if the conditions are correct.

2) Why would you want to you use waveguides? A Yagi or dish would the choice of most experienced people. As to 18dB, you'd have to do the math to see if the SOM would work. The antennae are only a part of the whole equation.

3) I'm not sure why you would want to go with a WET11 at each end and "station in between with 2 antennas." I'm assuming that you want a repeater of some type. Can't you get LOS? If so, the direct link would be preferable. Get two APs which will talk to each other in a bridge mode, to the exclusion of all other units.

4) WET11s, due to the nature of the beast, probably will not function as a repeater in this manner. They may, but for about the same price as two WET11s and a switch, you could get two WAP11s and a crossover cable. But again, unless you need the repeater because of LOS issues, a direct link is better.

yes it is a line of sight issue. I thought of using the 2 wet11's w/ antennas at the repeater sight both hooked through a switch because it seemed to be less expensive than wet11's. My config should be like this:

(DSL source>wap11>ant1)>(ant2>wet11-1>switch>wet11-2>ant3)>(ant4>wet11-3>switch>clients)

My question is the repeater or middle section as far as weather it will work.

Altitude (towers) and amps (amps) are your best friends for long range links, that and gain!

Go to electro-comm.com and play with their calculations page to figure out what might work.

BTW, the WET11's use 38mw transmitters, right?
