Pringles question
Can someone please tell me where to find the 1/4 inch aluminum tubing for the pringles antenna?? I've been to Home Depot, Lowes, local hardware stores but nothing! The closest I can come up with is copper, which I don't think will work. TIA!

K & S Metals
As fordem said the metarial doesn't matter. The tubing is being used only for spacing.
Another source for tubing is http://www.ksmetals.com/. You will find their display stands in most hobby stores. I found that HobbyLobby (http://www.hobbylobby.com) has a limited selection in their model dept. HcRUL |

Thank you!
Thanks guys! I was wondering if the aluminum had something to do with gain, etc. Like wrapping my tv antenna up with aluminum foil, lol. So I really should be concerned with spacing huh? I think I'm gonna take another looky look and verify my spacing is correct, just to be sure. Thanks again!!!

Forget the Pringles...Go with CANtenna!
If you want a really good antenna without all the hassles of the Pringles antenna and better gain...go for the "Big Chunk" antenna....the thing is a snap to make...though the Beef Stew is harder to eat than some Pringles.

cantenna
tried a couple of those. didn't work out for me. tried a small coffee can and a larger coffee can. figured the distance from the bottom (from some web page i can't remember where) and the length of the element. my lucent rangefinder still beat them. and it still beats my pringles too. although my pringles is very directional, it just doesn't get me the range i was looking for.

From all the reports and reviews I've read:
1. Flavor doesn't matter. There's nothing in a Pringle that absorbs or reflects around the 2.4 ghz band. If there were, would you really want to be eating them? 2. In fact, the Pringles can itself isn't all that great of a medium for the antenna, it's just that it's the right size. The so-called metal lining inside the can has such a small percentage of metallic elements that it doesn't reflect enough signal to be usable. 3. The type of tubing you use inside the can does not really matter at all. People are just using copper or aluminum tubing because it can be picked up at any hardware store, or anywhere that has plumbing supplies. All you need is something rigid enough to hold the washers in the right place. The washers are really the important part in this antenna. The spacing is what tunes the antenna to the frequency. Thick plastic tubing or even really tought straws can also work in a pinch.

oh ye pringles
I was in a pinch when I couldn't find aluminum tubing anywhere near the correct size and I wasnt sure if copper would work or not, so I just took some thing straws and cut them to length. Since I knew they were not all that sturdy, I made sure they were flush with my washers and the washers were level and them applied a bit of hot glue to hold them in place. After I had them set in place and all aligned right, I picked up a few more APs, therefore, the alignment and spacing of the washers seems to be quite important. Hope that helped anyone.
