Problems with Deluo GPS and MS S&T!
I just bought a USB Deluo GPS and MS Streets & Trips 2003 which is recommended by Deluo. I'm running XP Pro, configured everything according to instructions (COM ports are the same) but when I go to S & T to track my position I get the following prompt:
"The (COM) communications port is available, but no signal is being received. Make sure the GPS receiver is turned on and connected to the correct port." I've tested the GPS on the correct port and it is receiving data. Can anyone help?! Thanks |

Hi,
I just got mine too, and i use it with MS MapPoint (Europe). I get the same error sometimes, but when I retry a few times the GPS Sensor shows and everything works just dandy. I have downloaded the recent prolific drivers from Deluo (although the drivers on the CD worked just fine) and ran the setserial.reg which comes with it just in case. I also have fiddled with the serial port settings and I recommend you do that also: My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Ports -> Serial-To-Serial (COMx) -> Port Settings Especially take note of the Baudrate and the Flowcontrol. If you follow the guide that comes with your GPS it tells you to set the baudrate to 4800 and the Flowcontrol to none. When you test the port with Hyperterminal or any other terminal program which can monitor COM ports, the guide says you have to select Hardware Flowcontrol. Anyway, after a little fiddling with all of the settings I got mine to work pretty nicely. It took a while for the GPS to get a fix tho, so I recommend that you place the GPS in such a way that it has clear contact with the skies. I also recommend a tool named WinGPS which can be downloaded as a trial version here: http://www.stentec.com/software/wing...nloadform.html It can monitor all the NMEA messages coming from the GPS and also visualises the satellites and summarizes packets which are received and discarded in the process. Hope this all works for you as it did for me. Joost.

Thanks for the response and the info, Joost.
I thought of buying MapPoint but the Streets & Trips was much cheaper. I've played around with different COM ports, followed all the directions from the guide that came with the GPS and nothing. Still get the error. I put the GPS receiver right outside my window of my apartment on a clear night so I think I should be picking up something. I was wondering why the directions instruct to set the GPS flow control to none and the Hyperterminal to hardware? Did you change any of these differently than what the directions called for? I will download and try the WinGPS if I can get it working. Thanks again for the help! |

Well, I've been playing around with the port settings and NetStumbler seems to recognize the GPS then it starts getting super slow to where the computer is almost locked up. I can't even close out NetStumbler without unplugging the plug from the USB port then it frees up the computer. I should have plenty of CPU power to keep it from freezing up (233Mhz and 96MB RAM). What gives?!
Joost, is there anyway you could tell me what your settings are on the Com port hyperterminal and in the hardware settings under device manager? Maybe a screenshot? Thanks! Last edited by Titanium : 01-20-2003 at 05:04 PM. |
