Promiscuous Mode and Orinoco 8.10 Firmware: It works
Well, received my Dell TrueMobile 1150 ( an Orinoco Gold rebadge), and from everything I've read and been told: if I wanted to promscuously sniff Access Points, I would need to regress to firmwre 6.06 or 6.16. Well, I found my card came with firmware 8.10, which left me a little disheartened because I didn't feel like having to go through and hack the firmware and drivers. So, we decided to go out and do a little packet-sniffing anyways, and lo and behold...it worked. Using NAI Sniffer Pro 4.7 and its proprietary device drivers, we picked up about 80 devices, mostly access points, in a 45-minute drive. Was also able to succesfully start capturing packets and viewing their contents. So...is there a reason why everyone is saying you need 6.xx firmware for passive sniffing?? It defenitely works on 8.10.

Yeah, it works fine; it has been stable for me and I have not had any crashes of the program...and yes I have 4.7 because eralier versions did not include the Agere/Orinoco drivers. Anyways, I am still wondering why everyone says firmware v6.16 is required for promiscuous mode when it seems that (at least for me) 8.10 works great?

maybe...I am not using SP1...Could you elaborate when you say it is not working? Is it crashing, or just not detecting AP's, or not even starting up? Did you install the propietary device drivers?
