not for the pringles yagi's. btw, i wonder why anyone even bothers w/ the pringles yagi's. they're longer, more expensive, and harder to build, and i've yet to see anyone showing that they perform better.
I want to build a pringles yagi with proper measurements to see if indeed it is not a design worth pursuing. I have yet to see a homemade one designed with much precision so I thought it would be an interesting project. Afterall if I just wanted an antenna I could go buy one of ebay for ~$30.

Thanks for all the ideas so far, I will continue work on this project tonight most likely with a trip to the Home Depot for some PVC.

I will update this thread as I go along.

Speaking of Yagi

Speaking of Yagi antennas. I have seen a few of these(see attachment) on rooftops in my area.
Do you think its for wifi or some other microwave antenna? Like medic-alert?

You can't tell from the picture, but the mast is made up of several washers.

It could be WiFi, for a WISP or a local free net.

Medic-Alert* is using WiFi? ... Do you mean some one of those "I've fallen and can't get up" alerting systems? I'd be surprised to see a microwave system like that, since the phone systems are a mature technology and relatively cheap. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, I'd just wonder why it would be done.

*Medic Alert are the bracelet/database people. I've never heard of them doing such a thing.

It is probably an antenna for a local WISP. I have seen very similar units for sale on ebay.

I guess I would be surprised if its a medic alert. I figure the coverage would have to be fairly broad for something like that.

As for my antenna I am still waiting for some N-connectors to show up in the mail. Seems like all the local radio shacks are completely worthless and I don't have time right now to search for someplace else, so I just ordered them.

I'll get some pictures of the construction up next week.

In most yagi designs, the element being insulated or not from the boom only changes element lenght a little.

The reason why it doesn't really matter is that the point where the element meets the boom is at the nul or ground (0 on the Y axis) of the radio wave.

I'm having trouble getting some 3.25in PVC, so updates are slow. I'll be making some shopping trips this week or this weekend and have an update.
