I recently acquired dell latitude CPi 300 in immaculate order in an exchange. I have been ghosting about this forum for sometime appropriating as much information as possible on hardware and software. I am now prepared to expend some money on hardware for wardriving. From the tidings of all the wise people on this forum I have found the Orinoco to be most recommended and have decided to buy one. I winder If will try wardriving without an external antenna for now because I have been overwhelmed by the wide selection of antenna products and have no clue as to where to begin. Unless of course the wardriving experience wont be worthwhile without antenna. Can anyone the forum members recommend the best price on a card and other necessities for a beginner such as my self. If anyone could make a list of products they feel I should buy and need I would appreciate it very much. I decided I will use netstumbler for now until I install Linux on the laptop to try out kismet.

I would say a good GPS would be more worthwhile that an antenna. An antenna is important, but you can still stumble without one. You just won't see as many APs. But what's the point of stubling without a GPS?

I did the same run from my house to my grandparents house, each time changing the settings. I did it in the order I thought would yield best results. The run is 3 miles.
Netstumbler w/Orinoco antenna - 8 AP's Netstumbler w/Suctioncup roofmount antenna (homebrew) - 27 AP's Kismet w/Suctioncup roofmount antenna (homebrew) - 49 AP's Um, I think I know what hadn't won..... the tiny orinoco antenna in a tin can (your car) sucks. |
