Which is the "right" ORiNOCO to buy?

I've seen a few ORiNOCO gold 802.11b cards available. Namely the two that come to mind are the one with a man on it (non-classic?) and the one that is just purple (classic?).

Is there another (third) even?

I remember awhile back (at least a year) my friend said ORiNOCO had linux support and such but the newer gold doesn't have it? Does the "classic" (purple card) have it?

Is the "classic" currently sold around the internet the same one with prism2 chipset? Or do none of the current ones have that chipset anymore?

Sorry if these are stupid questions I'm just baffled and don't know the difference yet. Please forgive me

Additionally I've heard the best ones to buy are the Lucent ORiNOCO not the Proxim? Are the 'classic' Lucent produced?

From that thread I now understand which are which (visually) but didn't get much additional info from it.

I went to the Proxim site and found the classic gold's adobe data sheet and it claims that there is linux support which is good to know.

One question I have though, I could not find an answer on proxim's site, is which chipset does this card use?

The Classic uses the HERMES chipset.

Another question that I couldn't really resolve on the forum by searching past threads...

What is the difference between a Lucent ORiNOCO Gold that isn't produced (I'd buy it off of eBay), and a Proxim ORiNOCO Classic Gold (fab-corp sells these)?

Is there any benefits to buying a Lucent considering the Proxim 'Classic' works with NS anyhow?

Dam, this thread is getting long/boreing

Just get a gold card from Fab-corp, and be done with it...
Tell them you want the one that is compatible with NS and
they will send to correct card.

They are all the same card, produced by different companies as the companies and the product lines have been bought and sold over the years. (Proxim bought the ORiNOCO line from Lucent which bought it from Agere which bought ... ) Then too, there have been different names for the same product within the same company, usually renamed in marketing moves.

If you search here and the web you'll see it's all the same FCC ID number (IMRWLPCE24H) and is usually the same model number: 8410.
